DANNY : DE HEKAs someone who has spent years exposing Ponzi schemes and scams, I’ve seen firsthand the devastating impact these fraudulent schemes can have on families. My mission is simple: to create public awareness and save everyday investors from losing their hard-earned money—or worse, their children’s inheritance—to multilevel marketing bottom feeders and other scam operators.

If you’ve fallen victim to a Ponzi scheme, know this: you are not alone, and there are steps you can take to fight back. Here’s a guide to help you get recourse and, hopefully, recover some of your losses.

1. Report the Scheme

The first step in combating a Ponzi scheme is to report it to the appropriate authorities. Here’s who you can contact:

  • Regulatory Authorities: Depending on your country, report the scheme to financial regulators such as the SEC (USA), FMA (New Zealand), or your local financial oversight body.
  • Law Enforcement: File a report with the police or a national fraud task force. Provide as much evidence as possible to aid their investigation.
  • Consumer Protection Agencies: These agencies often help victims navigate the reporting process and pursue recovery.

Raising the alarm is crucial, as it helps authorities stop the scam and prevent further victimization. Checkout my blog How to Report Cybercrime and Cryptocurrency Scams: A Global Guide

2. Cease Further Involvement

It can be tempting to invest more or recruit others in hopes of recovering your money, but this is exactly what the scammers want. Stop all involvement immediately to protect yourself and others.

3. Gather Evidence

Documentation is your strongest ally when seeking recourse. Collect:

  • Receipts, bank statements, or proof of payments.
  • Contracts, emails, or text messages.
  • Marketing materials, meeting recordings, or any correspondence with the scheme operators.

This evidence will be invaluable for investigations, lawsuits, or filing claims.

4. Join Class Actions or Victim Groups

You are not alone. Many Ponzi schemes ensnare thousands of victims. Joining a class-action lawsuit or a victim advocacy group can strengthen your position and reduce legal costs. Groups often have resources and legal connections to pursue compensation collectively.

5. Seek Legal Counsel

Hire an experienced lawyer who specializes in fraud and financial crimes. They can help:

  • File a lawsuit to recover damages.
  • Represent you in bankruptcy proceedings if the scheme operator declares bankruptcy.
  • Advise you on your legal options to maximize recovery.

6. File a Claim with Bankruptcy Trustees

If the scheme has gone into bankruptcy or receivership, a court-appointed trustee may oversee asset recovery. Submit a claim with the trustee to be included in the distribution of recovered funds. While full recovery is rare, you may receive a portion of your losses.

7. Request a Tax Deduction

In some jurisdictions, you may be able to claim losses from fraud as a tax deduction. Consult with a tax professional to explore this option and offset some of your financial losses.

8. Warn Others

As part of my mission to expose scams, I often speak publicly about the schemes I investigate. You can do the same by:

  • Sharing your story on social media or with local news outlets.
  • Alerting friends, family, and community members to the scam.

This helps raise awareness and ensures fewer people fall victim to the same scheme.

9. Advocate for Stronger Regulations

Consider joining or supporting advocacy groups that push for stronger enforcement and regulation of Ponzi schemes. Public pressure can lead to more robust measures to prevent scams and hold perpetrators accountable.

10. Gatecrash Zoom Meetings

One of the most effective ways to fight back is to disrupt the scammers where they operate—Zoom meetings. Many Ponzi schemes rely on high-energy presentations to recruit new victims. As an average person, you can join these meetings, cause disruption, and spread awareness in real time. Here’s how:

  1. Join the meeting and ask pointed questions that expose the scam’s flaws or false promises.
  2. Hold your phone up with a clear sign stating, “This is a Scam.”
  3. Flood the chat with messages like the one below:

Attention Everyone in the Zoom Meeting:
This is a warning. You are currently participating in a fraudulent scheme. The organizers of this meeting have made numerous false promises and misleading claims. If you’ve invested money or time, please be aware that you are being scammed.

You should know that this meeting is being monitored, and all participants, including their activities, are being reported to relevant authorities. Additionally, this session is being streamed live on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@DEHEK

We urge you to take immediate action:

  1. Stop any further engagement or investment.
  2. Seek proper legal advice to recover any losses.
  3. Report this scam to your local authorities.

Your safety and financial security are at risk. Please act wisely.

Gatecrashing these meetings is a powerful way to disrupt scammers and warn potential victims in real time.

11. Manage Expectations

Recovering money from a Ponzi scheme is challenging. Funds are often depleted or hidden by the time the scheme collapses. However, taking action early can increase your chances of recovering some of your losses.
