Across Auckland’s Harbour Bridge is a city that proudly boasts of its peace, prosperity and plenty.
North Shore City has it all in abundance. A unique relaxed lifestyle that provides superb harbour views, sandy swimming beaches, countless bush reserves and parks and fine shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants.
Visitors can reach the city within ten minutes from downtown Auckland by car, bus or ferry across the harbour to Devonport – one of the first areas settled by the pioneers. Devonport’s grand colonial villas, tree-ringed waterfront, trendy cafes and restaurants and two volcano lookout points, Mt Victoria and North Head, provide all the ingredients for a leisurely day excursion.
North of Devonport is the principal shopping hub of Takapuna, which has the Shore City Galleria retail centre, a fine cultural centre, two live theatres, a major events centre, a crater lake and Takapuna Beach – one of Auckland’s favourite boating and swimming venues. From here a succession of superb beaches extends up to Long Bay, a regional park with every facility for a summer’s day in the sun, sand and surf. Beyond this is the fast growing rural centre of Albany and the beautiful Whangaparoa Peninsula.
Nautically minded visitors will enjoy the stunning views of the Hauraki Gulf from North Shore beaches and headlands. The Gulf seems to entice you into its aquatic playground. It is one of the finest boating, sailing and fishing areas in the world. One in every ten Aucklanders owns a boat, so watch out for any opportunity to get out on the water. Ferries run to Rangitoto, Motutapu, Motuhihe and Waiheke islands every day and combined sea and land tour packages are available.
Once you cross the Harbour Bridge or venture out into the Gulf you will become conscious of the term ‘lifestyle’. The long string of sheltered bays conjures up visions of endless summers, pohutukawa-lined coves, evening barbecues and congenial company. This is North Shore City, so relax and have a good time.
