Skipper’s Canyon at the head of the Shotover River is New Zealand’s own ‘Grand Canyon’, and was an important gold mining area in the 1860’s. Hundreds of miners camped down in the gorge braving freezing winters and severe spring floods.
Access to both the Skippers and Pipeline bungy sites is by 4WD vehicles over roads that were hewn out of rock by manual labour. Include time to visit the fascinating nearby stone school house and historic Mt Aurum homestead.
