I’d like to share an experience with you that has changed the way I think about reading words in books. I have dyslexia so reading isn’t what I like to do on rainy days, instead watching a good movie is more to my liking, however never really understood “the book was better than the movie” line!
Thanks to the Apple’s iTunes Store I have been purchasing, downloading and listening to audiobooks for about two years now and thoroughly enjoy listening to them in the car or when I am working and to be honest I can now say I have some good appreciation for books, I can still claim that I’ve never read a book in my life. Simply put I can read the words on the page but find it hard to absorb and retain the information in my brain this mean I could pickup the same book two days later and read the same pages again and not realize it has already been read!
Did you know most of this blog has been written by using speech recognition software I use Siri on my iPhone5s and send a iMessage to my computer and cut and past the text into WordPress to compose my Blog I do have Siri on my computer however the background noises slow the process and I have trained my voice to talk to my iPhone5s so once I am happy with my paragraph I listen to the words that I have written and hear any mistakes.
Are you a Mac user? have a go at using the built in Dictation utility (Go to Settings > Dictation & Speech > Dictation (TAB) Turn it on) Maybe you have dyslexia below are some awesome audiobooks and I strongly encourage you to download and listen to from the iTunes store.
